Curious as to how it’s done?

The yarns

I have tried to make my work from fabulous fabrics but environmentally consciously. This means most yarns come from Colourmart who source luxury yarn mill ends that would otherwise be destroyed. My cashmere is from the likes of Pringle, Todd & Duncan and even Chanel. This is high-fashion recycling!

The loom preparation

With the colours decided and a pattern to compliment the concept done designing the warp and threading it on the loom comes next. This can be as time consuming as the weave itself. Most scarfs will have around 300 individual strands of warp, all needing to be threaded through the reed and heddles separately.

Weaving & finishing

It’s then a ‘simple’ matter of completing the weave in the desired pattern (the one shown has 48 passes of the shuttle to complete one pattern). It can then be “finished” it (ie the ends are twisted and hem stitching is done by hand)and then washed before each unique item can be sent on to it’s special owner!
